What this checks
A WordPress export (WXR) file lists your posts, pages, custom post types, media entries, categories, tags, authors, comments and custom fields. The checker counts them, finds the shortcodes and block types used in your content, and groups custom field keys that look like they come from a known plugin or page builder.
What it does not do
It does not import anything. EmDash has its own import wizard, which according to the project can bring in posts, pages, media and taxonomies from a WXR export, the WordPress REST API or WordPress.com. Use this page to prepare, then run the wizard on a staging site first.
A WXR file contains references to your media, not the image files themselves, so keep your uploads folder available. Shortcode and plugin detection is based on patterns, so treat the lists as hints. Whether a given shortcode or plugin has an EmDash equivalent is something to check in the EmDash documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Is my export uploaded?
No. The file is read and analysed in your browser tab.
Can I check only some content?
Yes. The WordPress export screen lets you choose all content, or just posts, pages or media, and the checker reads whichever file you give it.
